UMBER UNDERPAINTING: Classical Brown Underpainting for Oil Painters

I have been following and learning from Jan Matejak for a while, and this book is one of his best. Understanding how to apply the principles of Hue, Value, Chroma and Color Temperature can be complicated, but by learning how to create an underpainting before dealing with those topics, everything else becomes much easier. It is like a road map to a better painting.
“Umber Underpainting” teaches how (and why) to make an imprimatura, then step by step how to transfer the drawing, and how to paint multiple passes to “build” your painting. It allows you to focus solely on value, which is the most important element. It has many photos and key principles outlined. It reads line a painting instructional text that I WISH I had in college.
Jan shares his years of color and light knowledge in an organized, easy to read book. I highly recommend. I don’t see anything else out there like it.
